WHY

EDUCATION?

“Education is the key to creating conscious minds with the hope of making a brighter future.”

DR. KENDRICK D. BAILEY

The following information has been provided by iProgress Counseling & Consulting, LLC.

HEALTH

Education is correlated with better overall life satisfaction given that individuals are able to afford healthcare as a result of higher incomes. Consequently, individuals with less education are prone to work high-stress jobs with minimum benefits.

SOCIAL NETWORKS

Individuals with a healthy social network typically have more mental, psychological, and emotional wellness that may reduce hardships and improve overall health.

CRIME

Education allows individuals the ability and comfort to secure better opportunities. As an individual’s education level increases, the likelihood of them engaging in crime decreases as well. By increasing graduation rates, we can illustrate a positive depiction our youth.

COMMUNITY

Education is essential in fostering change and can be a vital element for community development. A thriving community can create redevelopment efforts and spur economic growth.

Mississippi is 50th in national student achievement rankings.

Parents and education professionals must join the effort in lessening our gaps in education.  We must recognize current trends and apply those processes when identifying areas of growth in our school systems. Educators must focus on harnessing the power of  technology to reach our students and maximize their strengths. Remember, Education is the bridge that enables learning and knowledge and allows our children to overcome stereotypes and labels while conquering their dreams.

Education IMPACTs Everything

ECONOMY

Education is critical to economic growth given that the average level of scholastic achievement is correlated to a community's income potential and directly impacts the quality of life.

CHARACTER

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr stated, “Intelligence plus character is the goal of true education.” We must focus on emphasizing responsibility and respect to foster change in our classrooms and communities.

Mississippi’s own experience shows that adequate school funding is correlated with achievement.

WHY

Mississippi is 50th in national student achievement rankings.

Considerable improvement is needed if Mississippi is ever to meet her potential in terms of prosperity, economic development, and quality of life. It is important to remember that, as Mississippi students and teachers strive to improve, they are chasing a moving target. Students and teachers in other states are improving, as well. It’s hard to catch up, particularly given that students and teachers in other states are consistently provided much more in the way of resources and funding. Mississippi’s own experience shows that adequate school funding is correlated with achievement.
