Milton Dean / Ollie Dailey Scholarship

This scholarship is to honor Rev. Ollie Dailey and Mr. Milton Dean. Both were very instrumental in the growth of the Center Ridge community! Rev. Ollie Dailey was a much respected man from the Center Ridge Community. He was an immense advocate in the civil rights movement. Milton Dean funded the historical Dean Park in Winston County. These two men were big on education and for that that we give our first scholarship in their names.

 

Requirements:

Applicant must be a graduating senior from the Louisville Municipal School District and plans to enroll in a Junior College or University in Mississippi. Recipients are asked to participate in a Beautification Day at Dean Park hosted by Friends of Dean Park, Inc.

 

 

Scholarship Inclusion:

The recipient of this scholarship will receive $1000, paid directly to the junior college or university of his choice.

 

 

Application Requirements:

Applicants will be required to submit a 2-4 minute video presentation answering the following question.

 

What makes a thriving and effective community?

 

Please include the following in your response:

  • Introduction. Tell us your name, where you are from, your current high school, and where you plan to attend college.
  • Response. What makes a thriving and effective community?
  • Personal. Tell us about a time you volunteered in your community.
  • Lessons. If you had the authority to change your community in a positive way, what specific changes would you make?
  • Benefits. How would that contribution change your community?
  • Closing. Why is it important for a community to come together?

 

Applicants must have a 2.5 GPA; must submit school transcript when applicable.

 

Some Advice:

  • Try to restate the questions in your response.
  • Remember posture is important.
  • Record your video with appropriate lighting using a neutral background.
  • Pick a quiet area.
  • Dress appropriately.
  • Your final submission should be free of grammatical errors.
