Mary Jo Liljedahl Scholarship

The Mary Jo Liljedahl Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to a student who is enrolled in a public or private university within the state of Mississippi and who is majoring in psychology, counseling, or another related field. For those of you who may not know, my mom woke up everyday battling her mental health, which ultimately affected the entire family.

 

Making a difference is not about changing the entire world, it is about making an impact within your own community. We all have the ability to empower future generations of students who will be dedicating their lives to helping others who need it most. I wish my mom could have received the help that she needed and it is my goal that no other family has to share this thought.

 

Requirements:

Applicants must be enrolled at a university in the state of Mississippi and pursuing a degree in psychology, counseling, or another related field.

 

Scholarship Inclusion:

The recipient of this scholarship will receive $1000, paid directly to the junior college or university of his choice.

 

Application Requirements:

Applicants will be required to submit a 2-4 minute video presentation answering the following question.

 

Pick an experience from your own life and explain how it has influenced your mental health development.

 

Please include the following in your response:

• Introduction. Tell us your name, where you are from, your current high school, and where you plan to attend college.

• Response. Pick an experience from your own life and explain how it has influenced your mental health development.
• Personal. What does mental health mean to you?
• Lessons. How can we as a society promote good mental health?
• Benefits. What do you think are ways to improve mental wellbeing?
• Closing. Why did you choose to pursue a degree that focuses on mental health?

 

Applicants must have a 2.5 GPA; must submit school transcript when applicable.

 

Some Advice:

• Try to restate the questions in your response.
• Remember posture is important.
• Record your video with appropriate lighting using a neutral background.
• Pick a quiet area.
• Dress appropriately.
• Your final submission should be free of grammatical errors.
